1 year in and Sylvan Highlands is my favor rental experience

The staff here are incredible. They are very warm, friendly, and professional, and make the mood a delight. They really help this place feel like a community. Geoff at the main office is one of the most friendly and well qualified people (not just managers) I have ever met and I always look forward to speaking with him when I get the chance. I can tell that he truly cares about the well being of the residents. The amenities are fine (Pool, Hot Tub, Gym, Sauna, Meeting Room, etc.) though the gym is a bit lack luster if not having the essentials. The pool has recently been re-finished and surrounded with new lounge chairs that really make the pool area a great meeting place during the warm days. The Parking is a different story, however. There is enough parking for everyone but only just. During the day if you come home for lunch you'll be fine or anytime before about 4:30pm really, but anytime after that it's god-eat-dog. The parking lot is very long so once spaces start filling there is no guarantee that you'll be close to your building. Anytime after about 8pm or 9pm you can kiss that first, second, or thirtieth favorite spot goodbye. With my apartment in the first building and guest parking at the farthest end of the property, guests of mine often look blankly at me when I tell them where they have to park. Thankfully the complex offers underground and individual garage parking for an extra monthly charge for residents, again though, it's slim pickings and hard to get one of those. If you don't mind walking in the weather to and from your car on occasion, this place is a gem. Interiors are above average (sound insulation is scary quiet too), staff is wonderful and caring, and the amenities are great. It's also worth noting that while we are so close to Highway 26, the sound from the highway never creeps into the property (and I'm one of the closest residents to it). Over all, I'm really glad I have the place I do and would highly recommend it.

We always appreciate a review that highlights not only the qualities of the community but the areas needing improvement. Our staff understands the grind residents go through at apartment community settings. Not only do we listen to the residents, we try to find a better solution for their issues. Telling people we work where you live means we must utilize the staff power that we have each day to keep Commons at Sylvan Highlands operating the way residents expect it to be 24 hours a day. We are here for people to drop into the office for a tour of the community, to ask us a question, resident service requests or simply to pick up a package 7 days a week. Warm, Welcoming, and Lovely

The staff here at Sylvan have been nothing but kind, welcoming, and helpful to me since my arrival here a few months ago. They are always friendly, receptive, willing to chat, and they have each gone out of their way to help me on multiple occasions. The apartment itself is quiet, spacious, well maintained, and comfortable. Any issues we've had with maintenance, such as dead light fixtures, window troubles, or other concerns have been addressed swiftly and thoroughly. The other residents I've met so far have also been friendly and warm. While it can be difficult to find parking in the lots, especially in the evenings, having a spot in the parking structure has been incredibly convenient, and most importantly, dry! The pool, hot tub, and sauna are all quite nice, however, the gym does feel a little claustrophobic, with very bright florescent lights, lower ceilings, and a slight funny smell. Other than that, its been a wonderful experience living here at Sylvan Highlands!

Caorlyn, we are so glad your are enjoying the community. We will definitely do a bit of brainstorming to make the fitness room a bit more inviting. One example how we've responded to the residents was the transformation of the pool area of the Summer. We added high quality furniture and fresh coat of paint that gives the pool that "walk right in" feeling. Our goal is to continue improving the quality of living for the resident. If you don't already live here, you're missing out.

I've lived here for almost a year, and I feel incredibly lucky to have found this Portland jem. The place is better than a high class hotel (except the room service part, but there are restaurants right around the corner who can deliver!). The maintenance people are ridiculously friendly. The hot tub is always clean. The other residents are respectful and have cute pets. However my favorite part about living here is the staff. Even stepping for in the office as a first time visitor, one thing's for sure: you'll always be taken care of. They write sincere monthly news letters, facilitate community bonding activities, and ingraciate you with bad puns every so often. It's perfect. And you'll always get a wave from the manager, Geoffe, who also never fails to remember your name and ask how you're doing. If you're looking for the best apartment experience you can possibly find, congratulations. You've done it.
